FALL IS HERE!!!
Hellooooooooo! Everything is Terrible and Very Hard but I spent a couple of days this week in New York for Comic Con, and I got to eat dinner with a friend at a place called Cheeseboat on Wednesday. (Thanks to GRETAGRAM reader Freyja for the rec!) I had two bagels yesterday! AND I got to finally meet THE MJ Franklin in real life!!!! MJ is an editor with the New York Times Book Review, and it was such a joy to spend time with him. We barely even talked about books! It was wild and wonderful!!!
Anyway, here are some things I’ve been enjoying this week, which you might like too:
Wayward on Netflix is so eerie and wild!
I finally listened to Jeff Hiller narrating his audiobook Actress of a Certain Age and it was so wonderful. If you loved the HBO show Somebody Somewhere and wish you could hang out with the characters more, I highly recommend this book. Jeff’s narration feels like a friend telling you a story, and we could all use that in our lives!!
It is FINALLY sweater weather in Chicago, and I can’t wait to get back to town and make this white bean turkey chili with Alison Roman’s cornbread.
Also! I fucked up the Venmo link for stickers last week! Let’s try this again. If you’d like some fun old-school Nerdette stickers and buttons, venmo $7 to me at @Greta-Johnsen (you’ll see a lil pic of Scout the corgi) and send me your mailing address in the message and I’ll get those out to you first thing next week!
Book club for October!!!
This month, we’re reading Jade Chang’s wonderful What a Time to Be Alive. It’s about grief and instagram and wellness culture and Los Angeles and THE MOON, and I can’t wait to discuss it with y’all! Our Zoom date is Sunday, Oct. 26 at noon Central Time. Email me at greta m johnSEN at gmail dot com if you want a link! (And if you already emailed me but haven’t gotten the link, this is top on my list when I get back to Chicago!)
That’s it for now — hope you all are taking care.
**Note: All book titles in this email link to my affiliate page at bookshop.org, where I receive a percentage of the purchase price (and you support a website that supports local indie bookstores!). I don’t actually care where you get your books, as long as you support indies when you can! Libraries are really cool too!!!

Seconding Jeff Hiller's book!! It is so wonderful! Love him so much. Love the show. I hope he does so many other things for us to enjoy!! I haven't listened yet, but he was just on Wild Card, and Sam Sanders also did a great interview with Jeff. 💖
OMG I love MJ Franklin. I look so forward to discussions on the Book Review podcast. And also Jeff Hiller loved Somebody Somewhere. Thank you for the book recommendation.
