Hellooooo!!! I’m a little under the weather this week, so I’m going to keep things short and sweet. Here are some things I’m enjoying, which you might like too!
Happy pub week to Cleyvis Natera! Her newest novel The Grand Paloma Resort came out on Tuesday. If you’re looking for a wildly plotty novel that spends more time with the workers of a fancy resort than its ultra-rich patrons, this is the book for you!
I am really enjoying Code of Silence on BritBox! It’s about Alison, a deaf woman who wants more from her life than to clean the police department’s cafeteria – so when they ask her to lip read a conversation between criminals, she becomes obsessed with the case. Rose Ayling-Ellis, who is deaf herself, is a phenomenal actor, and the show creates a really interesting depiction of life without hearing.
I tried to make these wonderful salted brown butter crispy treats the other day, but I used atrociously stale Rice Krispies and they were TERRIBLE!!!! I bought some “fresh” Rice Krispies and I tried again yeterday with great results. I also made Deb’s grilled chicken salad with cilantro lime dressing for dinner, and it was deeeeelicious!
Book club book club boooooook cluuuuuubbbbbbb
Our August book club pick is the absolutely wonderful historical fiction novel These Heathens by Mia McKenzie! This book is voice-y as hell and it brims with life. We’ll discuss it together on Sunday, August 31 at noon Central Time! Email greta m johnsEn at gmail dot com for the Zoom link.
If you’ve never done book club before, YOU SHOULD COME! You can talk or not talk, and I think you’ll be as impressed as I am by how thoughtful GRETAGRAM readers are. Every month, someone brings a thought or insight that completely delights me. Come be in community with some super sharp, kind readers!
Ok, that’s it for this week. I hope you’re taking care!!

Feel better soon Greta!! Thanks for the Gram, loving these recommendations. 💛 ✨
