Today is my mom’s birthday!!!!!! To celebrate, I invite you to do some of her favorite things, which are all Objectively Delightful: Wake up, make tea, and get back into bed with your cup of tea and a book! Go on a walk! Get yourself some flowers! Go to the farmer’s market! Make a cake! Eat all the garlic! Buy the good chocolate! Take a nap! TAKE TWO NAPS!
Here is some of my favorite wisdom from my mother: Cheating on a crossword puzzle is allowed, as long as you intentionally learn something about what you just Googled. It’s important to keep extra butter in the freezer at all times. Mold formations in the fridge are really cool, and should be appropriately admired. Breakfast is the best meal of the day, but so is lunch, along with dinner.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM! I LOVE YOU!!!
Links to fun things!
I love this Vox article from Alex Abad-Santos for the headline alone: “The midlife crisis is coming for millennials lol”
Bon Appetit’s Kendra Vaculin just published a recipe for zucchini butter, and it made me think of Smitten Kitchen’s amazing zucchini butter pasta, which is a very similar concept, though Kendra’s take has less garlic, more lemon, and many more potential applications.
A new Owen Wilson show is out on Apple TV+! It’s called Stick, and it’s about golf and grief and RV campers, and while the script is a little heavy-handed at times, it’s a joy to watch such an open-hearted show. One of my biggest gripes is that Stick supposedly takes place in the Midwest, but it is ZERO percent Midwestern. (Then again, maybe the amateur golf of it all surpasses regionalism? I can happily say I have learned almost nothing new about golf, though!) It’s almost worth watching for Marc Maron along, who plays an excellent crabby-but-kind old man.
I read a very strange novel this week: Maria Reva’s Endling, a book about snails and war and leaving home and, weirdly, also RVs!
