Hellooooooo!
I’m writing this email from the Apple Store, where I am waiting for my phone to back up so that I can get a replacement. WHY, you ask? WELL, GUESS WHO left her phone on top of her car while getting gas and didn’t remember it was up there til she was ON THE INTERSTATE? Once I heard a thunk on my car and my audiobook cut off, I knew I had made a huge mistake.
I pulled over, weny in reverse on the shoulder of the highway, AND WAS ABLE TO FIND THE PHONE in the middle lane of the freeway. I watched it get run over a couple of times while waiting for a pause in traffic. Miraculously, the phone still works!!!!!!! The screen protector was in shards, but the screen itself is in tact. I’m pretty sure the case is holding its brains together like that one guy’s helmet in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
This could have absolutely ruined my day, but I’m very proud of how kind I was to myself about what happened.
This week on HTBH: The end is nigh, and that could be a really good thing!
My guest today is journalist, climate change advisor, journalist, philosopher, and author. She hosts the podcast Wild with Sarah Wilson, and she wrote the books First, We Make the Beast Beautiful: A New Journey Through Anxiety and This One Wild and Precious Life: The Path Back to Connection in a Fractured World.
Her new book ia called I Eat the Stars: How to Live Fully and Beautifully in a Collapsing World.
When I first saw the cover and title of this book, I was immediately like, YES. YES YES YES. Partly because YES, i do want to live beautifully in a collapsing world, and YES, I want to be told how to do that! But also because the idea of living beautifully in tandem with acknowledging a collapsing world feels very honest and exciting to me.
A brief warning: this conversation may not be for everyone. We will be talking about the end of the world as we know it. BUT. This book is indeed beautiful, and it presents a bold argument about what’s worth fighting for in the year of our lord 2026.
