We did it!!!

We made it to another weekend!

Feb 13, 2026
∙ Paid

Helloooo and happy Galentine’s Day! I’m trying something a little different with the newsletter this week. The first half of this email is free to everyone, and the second half is paywalled for paid subscribers.

This is part of an effort to make as much stuff available to as many people as possible while also creating ways to nudge you to pay for my work if you can. When you upgrade, you’re investing in Happy To Be Here, you’re automatically entered into book giveaways, and you’re supporting independent media!!!

This week on HTBH: Love songs, love notes, and buttermilk on My So-Called Life

On this week’s podcast, Kristen Meinzer and I discuss My So-Called Life episodes 7 and 8 --”Why Jordan Can’t Read” and “Strangers in the House” -- with Joanna Robinson and Kristin Russo!!!! I’ve admired Joanna and Kristin’s work from afar for a long time, and they’re the perfect guests to talk about MSCL because they hosted their own rewatch podcast, The Boiler Room!

We talk about Angela’s amazing detective skills, the crumbs of Jordan’s personality we are all subsisting on, and the undeniable relatability of the show’s exquisitely flawed characters.

If you have thoughts about the show that you’d like to share, I’d love to play them in the podcast! Just record yourself on your phone and then email the file to greta m johnsen at gmail dot com. (Pro tip: you can also just reply to this email!) Send the file by this coming Tuesday if you want to be in the podcast!

February book club!

This month, we’re reading How to Commit a Postcolonial Muder by Nina McConigley, We’ll discuss it on Sunday, Feb. 22 at noon Central Time. Email me if you’d like to join! All are welcome.
