What can you take off your plate today?
Hellooooo! I got back from London and went right up to Northern Michigan. This week I’m on Cape Cod, and next week I’ll be in LA. Every single trip has been a blast, but I AM TIRED.
Meanwhile, summer solstice is nigh! It’s a celebration of abundance, and IT ALSO MAKES ME TIRED. Don’t get me wrong, I love summer fruits and lush blooms and beach days. But, introverted Taurus that I am, I also feel a certain thrill when I wake up to a rainy day that I can spend under a blanket on the couch.
When I was in Traverse City last week, I took a vinyasa class at Dhamsala TC. The teacher talked about how cycles of breath mirror the seasons -- the inhale is spring, the hold at the top of your breath is summer, when everything is full, the exhale is fall, and the bottom of the breath is winter. I love that analogy, and it resonated with me deeply. There is a beauty to sitting with you lungs full of air, but there’s also a huge release when you finally exhale. In other words, it’s not even official meteorological summer yet, but I’m ready for fall!
In the spirit of abundance and also fatigue, I have a question for you this week: what can you take off your plate? Are you doing something you “have” to do that you could actually let go of? Does the idea of doing less excite you? LEAN INTO IT. Maybe you can cancel a plan, or say no to something you feel obligated to do. Maybe you can give yourself permission to be ever so slightly less easygoing and a little more aligned with what you actually want to do. This isn’t bitchiness for the sake of being bitchy, it’s about spending your energy where you want to, about enjoying the fullness of the season without overextending yourself.
