Hey!!!
This is the first newsletter I am actually sending to more than four email addresses (two of which were my own)! Which is to say, I am very glad that you are here! Thank you for showing so much enthusiasm for this space.
I think technically this plant friend is a Thanksgiving cactus. Someone on instagram told me that and I didn’t fact check it.
Whatever it is, I’ve had it for probably five years now, and I’ve only gotten a couple of blooms out of it during that whole time.
But GUESS WHAT. This sucker has bloomed TWICE since I found out I was getting laid off!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
The metaphor is just sitting there!!!!!
ANYWAY,
Here’s some stuff I’m digging these days, which you might like too!
I want to write a whole newsletter about whipped ricotta, but in the meantime, here’s this really nice recipe. You can make the rhubarb stuff or you can literally just whip the f*****g ricotta. It’s EXQUISITE.
I really enjoyed Kevin Kwan’s newest book, Lies and Weddings, which came out on Tuesday! It’s one of my favorite genres: Beautiful Rich People Behaving Very Badly!
A sweet friend got me this gorgeous LIBRARY-SCENTED candle for my birthday, and I haven’t even lit it yet, but it’s filling up my office with such lush bookish smells!
Yowei Shaw (who used to host Invisibilia for NPR but was laid off last year) just started a phenomenal podcast called Proxy, all about BEING LAID OFF! It is at turns the most triggering and validating thing I’ve listened to in a looong time. Yowei is such a skilled storyteller and it’s a joy to hear her report the s*** out of something that’s terribly common but also so stigmatized.
And speaking of podcasts, I am co-hosting The Official Game of Thrones Podcast: House of the Dragon again for season two, and our first episode is out! Getting to co-host this show with Jason Concepcion and talk to the show’s cast and crew is so much fun.
My last day at the station is this Tuesday. The lasts are piling up! It’s been an emotional week, as you can imagine, and there’s still so much to process. Send good vibes, y’all, and do something nice for yourself this weekend because I told you to!!!!!
greta
brb I gotta go whip the sh!t out of some ricotta
Greta! Thank you for continuing to share your interests, recommendations, and insightful musings. After having your voice in my ears for years, I felt a true sense of grief when learning Nerdette was coming to an end. I am sending you all my good vibes! Even though we’re all here virtually, we are your tribe! Here to support you in all that you do!
