Summer movies - I immediately thought of movies that take place in the summertime! The Parent Trap (the original version). Dirty Dancing. Under the Tuscan Sun (maybe?).
Two mind-blowing movies I watched in a movie theater in summers long past were Jurassic Park (the original), and Men in Black (original movie). Both had a great mix of comedy and mayhem, fun and surprising cameos and character actors, and were original in their concepts of Dinosaurs resurrected in a modern-day theme park, and a secret CIA-type agency handling all the aliens in New York City. Guess I'm also a pretty big fan of movies that highlight NYC. :D
Also though, both movies probably failed the Bechdel test and could have had a few more smart women characters. I haven't watched most of the sequels, but I am pretty sure none of them measure up to the first movies.
Indian Summer (1993) is a perfect summer movie. It takes place at a 20-year reunion at summer camp in a gorgeous setting with a great cast. It has humor, pathos, great lines, even more humor, and just the right amount of love. And a moose. All this plus the bonus of discovering that Sam Raimi is a genius at physical comedy. If your library has Hoopla, you can watch it for free.
Big dumb conventionally attractive people in big dumb expensive blockbusters. Explosions. A sweeping soundtrack. Lots of nostalgia for the 80s or 90s. More explosions than plot. ;)
I can get down with a big summer blockbuster, but my favorite films tend to have a lazy, sexy European summer vibe with a gorgeous setting like Call Me by Your Name or Stealing Beauty.
I think my fave movie of this summer (with great summer vibes) was Janet Planet, which is neither sexy nor European but still a solidly wonderful movie with a slower pace (and some excellent cricket Foley!) that I relish in a summer flick. It took me back to the way 90s summers at home felt so long and boring but also so free. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For summer, I love a good road trip comedy movie or a buddy comedy film. It has to be low stakes and fun/funny. Please also note, I’ll never turn down a rom-com - no matter what season we’re in. :)
I want camp vibes and lakes or something needs to blow up
When The God of the Woods hits the screen, it’s going to be perfect!!!

If you have not roasted fresh figs with a drizzle of honey and (optional) topped with goat cheese you are MISSING OUT. Peak summer snack.
I’m on board for Rainbow Roswell’s homework assignment!

If you like both RomComs and action movies, I recommend The Fall Guy which is a perfect blend
Second this!
